Rudreshwar Mahadev & Rudri Dam: A Timeless Blend of Faith and Nature

An ancient Shiva temple near the Mahanadi river. Believed to be built by King Rudra Dev, this site is associated with faith and mythology and becomes lively during Mahashivratri. The temple is believed to be one of the ancient Shiva temples of the Dakshin Kosala region. Devotees from across the state and neighboring areas visit this temple throughout the year, especially during Mahashivratri and the month of Sawan, to offer prayers and perform jalabhishek (water offering) to Lord Shiva. It is also considered a hub of Ashta Dharmik Manyataayein — the Eight Spiritual Beliefs associated with this temple.

Another name of Rudri Barrage is Doc. Khubchand Baghel Barrage. It was established between 1912-15. This is the first ancient dam of the state. Rudri Canal was constructed in 1912. This was also the first electrical project of Chhattisgarh. Since 1994, it is also known as Rudri Barrage. Near the dam is the ancient and grand temple of Rudeshwar Mahadeo which is a major center of faith, devotion and spirituality. The view of the dam from here is extremely captivating and full of joy which works like a magnet for the Dhamtri tourists to come here.
